Benefits of Organic Farming
Organic farming is not only amazing for your health but it is the ethical choice for the environment. The benefits of organic farming spans from keeping water supplies safe by conserving it and protecting it from pollution, keeping our environment safe, and keeping animals and rare plants safe from chemicals to name a few! In this post, I will discuss the top benefits of organic farming, how it affects you and the environment, and where you can shop organic food!
1. Good for Water Supplies and Your Health
Organic farming does not use fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, or herbicides to manage their crops. Since organic farmers do not use these harmful chemicals there is no runoff of these pollutants into the water supply. An unhealthy water supply can mean damage to ecosystems. Damaged ecosystems can lead to a disruption in the fishing market. A disruption in the fishing market means decrease food supplies of both freshwater and saltwater fish.
2. Helps the Environment
One way Organic farming helps the environment is by reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because the soil used for this type of farming contains organic matter that would normally rot above the surface and produce carbon. Keeping that carbon in the soil means that it is not released into the atmosphere. Another way organic farming benefits the environment is by reducing energy requirements. Organic farming relies on physical or manual labor and also on animal labor instead of fossil fuels.
3. Keeps Animals and Plants safe from Pollution
As mentioned in the first topic, organic farming does not use chemicals at all but relies on natural fertilizers to grow their crops. Without pollutants running off into water supplies and the soil, animals and rare plants are safe. As farmers use safe methods to get rid of weeds, such as manually pulling them, rare plants stay healthy. Endangered species can consume these poisonous chemicals. Not only does organic farming help keep animals safe from pollution, but it also encourages animals, birds, and bugs to naturally clear the land of pests. This helps promotes biodiversity.

So hard to find a grocery store that actually offers QUALITY produce, meats and poultry. A lot of grocery stores these days walk the walk, but don’t talk the talk. Hey Sprouts, come to Chicago area! I haven’t seen you around in the River North area. You’d be a welcome addition!
